The Law Society Foundation
Founded in 1962, the Law Society Foundation is a registered Canadian charity administered by The Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC).
The Foundation was established in 1962 in order to raise funds from the legal profession for bursary grants to support students in need as they pursue their law degree and admission to the Bar of Ontario.
The Foundation’s mandate has expanded significantly since 1962. We serve the public and the legal profession by fostering high standards and equity in legal education in Ontario; by preserving objects of historic significance to Canada’s legal heritage and by reaching out to those in need through the Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program.
The Law Society is proud to assist the Foundation in its charitable mandate and in supporting volunteer groups within Ontario’s legal community in delivering important hunger relief programs.
The Law Society Foundation Board of Directors
Marion Boyd - Chair
Marion Boyd, a former Ontario Attorney General, became active as an ex officio Bencher of the Law Society in 1999, when she left politics and is now an appointed Bencher. She was nominated as a Trustee of the Law Society Foundation in 2004 and assumed the Chair of the Foundation in 2005. Devoted to public service and passionate about access to justice, Ms Boyd is honoured to lead the Foundation's charitable programs. The Lawyers' Feed the Hungry Program, she says, is an outstanding example of the contributions Ontario's legal professionals make to improve the lives of residents in need in the community.
Trustees
Robert Aaron, LL.B. - Vice Chair
Bob Aaron has been a trustee of The Law Society Foundation since 1995 when he was elected as a bencher of The Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Aaron is a lawyer whose Greater Toronto Area practice is focused on real estate, wills and estate planning. He says since the Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program was founded, it is very rewarding to see the meal service expand as a direct result of lawyers being fully involved in their community. Mr. Aaron is a board member of the Tarion Warranty Corporation, a former Chair and current board member of the Non Smokers’ Rights Association and the Smoking and Health Action Foundation.
Ian M. Hull, LL.B.
Ian Hull was appointed as a trustee of The Law Society Foundation in 2005. Mr. Hull is a co-founder of Hull and Hull LLP, a Toronto-based estate and trusts law firm. While he has been involved in several charities during his career, the Foundation is now his philanthropic priority. His commitment to service, he says, is inspired by the dozens of dedicated law professionals across Ontario who contribute many hours of personal time and who give financial gifts to support the Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program.
Bradley H. Wright, LL.B.
Bradley Wright, an elected bencher of The Law Society of Upper Canada, joined the Foundation as a trustee in 1999. Mr. Wright is a general solicitor in sole practice in Ottawa. He is a strong advocate of the Foundation and its efforts to expand the involvement of legal professionals in furthering the Foundation’s objects and programs. In one of his previous volunteer governance roles, Mr. Wright served as a Director of The Law Foundation of Ontario. Prior to that, he served as a Director of Carleton-Ottawa Residence for Disabled Inc.
