Teplitsky family’s inspired commitment drives success of Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program

In the winter of 1998, civil litigation lawyer Martin Teplitsky was working as a volunteer in Toronto’s grassroots Out-of-the Cold program.

Mr. Teplitsky, and then Bencher, Nancy Backhouse thought that Toronto’s legal community had the capacity to help. To make that happen, they turned to The Law Society of Upper Canada and then Treasurer, Harvey Strosberg.  Mr. Strosberg believed in the idea and used his office to move it forward.

With the support of The Law Society of Upper Canada, The Law Society Foundation and countless volunteers, the Lawyers Feed the Hungry, a year round community meal program, will soon celebrate its 11th year of operation.

Besides his personal commitment of time and guidance, Mr. Teplitsky is a leading donor to the program.  This leadership commitment has inspired many others to support the program through volunteerism and charitable gifts.

In honouring Mr. Teplitsky as our program founder and in tribute to the passion of our volunteers, The Law Society Foundation has made this important legal community legacy an important focus in the next few years.
